Doors
Moving On: Closing The Door
A long time ago I read an article by someone who wrote about closing the door for the last time on a childhood summer vacation place that he'd just sold. He remembered all the good times the family had had there and much of him was regretting leaving something that held these memories. But he ended by saying that by closing this door, he was giving himself the opportunity to open new ones.
For some reason this has always stuck with me. I've closed the door on a lot places and let go of a lot of things. It's really hard leave something familiar, even just familiar routines. It's very comforting to know where things are, what to expect - even if it isn't always great.
And I don't know how you know when it's time is to clear things out and start over. But I do think the fellow was right that closing doors is a necessary part of being able to move on to new things.
